Is this the SLOWEST pulsar ever found?! Or something else...?
AD - Go to ground.news/drbecky to stay fully informed with the latest Space and Science news. Subscribe through my link to get 40% off the Vantage plan for unlimited access this month only. | Neutron stars are some of the most extreme objects in the universe that we can see - the only thing you can get more extreme is a black hole. And when we find neutron stars, they tend to be spinning faster than once a second! Which is why this month when a paper by Caleb and collaborators was published reporting on the discovery of a possible neutron star with pulses of radio light detected once every 54 minutes, the entire astronomy community, went, wait? what? Is it really a pulsar? Spinning that slowly? Or is it something else? Whatever this thing is, it’s WEIRD, and not what we expect to find at all.

👩🏽‍💻 I'm Dr. Becky Smethurst, an astrophysicist at the University of Oxford (Christ Church). I love making videos about science with an unnatural level of enthusiasm. I like to focus on how we know things, not just what we know. And especially, the things we still don't know. If you've ever wondered about something in space and couldn't find an answer online - you can ask me! My day job is to do research into how supermassive black holes can affect the galaxies that they live in. In particular, I look at whether the energy output from the disk of material orbiting around a growing supermassive black hole can stop a galaxy from forming stars.

A wondering: neutron stars and magnetars are remnants of shortlived supergiants, burning out in just some million years. This means that these remnants, around 15-100 times heavier than the Sun, should be extremely abundant in the universe and keep quite a lot of the original mass. Since these stars send out both heat, light, and radio emissions, they should grow colder with time. The question is, how long before they go "black", similar to rough planets, hard for us to see? Notably, the Milky Way has had relatively few supernovas since the mid-1800s, but others, like the Firework Galaxy, have had a multitude of them at the same time. At the same time, novas are not linear, they increases when interstellar clouds get affected by gravity. Therefore, the second question is, how can man, theoretically, estimate how many "dead" neutron stars and magnetars linger in a galaxy, creating invisible gravity effects. Effects we account to dark matter? Likely not all of it, but can these burnt-out carcasses be ignored?

I'd say neutron stars are *more* extreme than black holes. At least black holes have enough modesty to hide their freaky sнιτ behind an event horizon, but neutron stars let it all hang out -- blasts of gamma rays, magnetic fields strong enough to rip molecules apart, showers of heavy elements, you name it. Whenever a neutron star does something, it affects you.

@DrBecky some flat Earthers/geocentrists take this as evidence for a flat, stationary earth. Forget the flat earth part, because we get this data from satellites, which of course rules out a flat earth right there. But the stationary part…am I correct in saying that this anisotropy couldn’t be proving that because in order to see this anisotropy in the quadrupole and octopole, we first had to calculate the dipole, where we corrected for Earth’s motion? ALL of its motion (rotation/revolution/precession/travel through the galaxy, galaxy travel through the universe, etc)? Do I have this right? Thanks!

Oh, sorry for that inconvenicene, I was moving around some pulsars to redecorate my local spacetime for a birthday party, didn't realize if I used one as a beacon on the back of my space bunny it would shine towards habitated planets... I'll make sure to turn it off next time I'm home, sadly I'm a few billion megaparsecs out, so you guys will have to put up with it for a while... You know, space bunnies are so skittish, they fly in perfect circles until they find a rogue planet to chase and simply run off... I thought that putting a pulsar as a beacon on mine might be a good idea to find it, if it did run off while I was travelling. I think I'm just going to get a cat, if you could spare one, though, if that's okay with you? Oh, and do you take intergalactic credits, if you decide to let me buy one? Heat doesn't collapse in on itself. Is there any new energy outside of heat? Cold space is repulsive to heat propulsion from cold repulsion momentum as space itself as a weak external magnetic field filled with dark heat energy outside of entanglement of mass as potential renewable energy when entanglement with mass occurs again and again. Conservation of heat energy throughout space as dark heat energy outside of entanglement of mass. Mass neutralizes repulsion within it as occupational space itself as outward force of pressure known as weightless outside of a greater internal magnetic field grounding currents through all masses in its path until resistance is overcome by open space itself and returns to dark heat energy outside of entanglement. Distance traveling increases, and the force of pressure decreases as open space at normal space heat propulsion maximum distance traveling momentum and least amount of force to and from cold repulsion. Internal magnetic fields are maximum force and least distance traveling cycling circulation patterns as hydrogen. The least amount of occupational space as outward force of pressure and least distance traveling cycling circulation patterns as mass. Mass neutralizes repulsion within it as an outward force of pressure. Mass occupies space, and as mass expands, it occupies more cold space as repulsion within and without entanglement and force of pressure expands into more repulsion. Mass falls in equalization to repulsion within and without entanglement of mass. More force of pressure has a greater impact of grounding currents of heat energy pressure in equalization to renewable heat energy absorbed and existing heat energy released from internal magnetic fields grounding currents into surrounding areas of mass as synchronization of flow equalization. Heat has to ground or burn as external heat energy released from internal magnetic fields disolving into external heat energy as fire. External heat energy within mass is constant external heat energy. Heat is the lifeblood of everything as external heat energy degrees of temperature equalization throughout space and mass as quantum internal magnetic fields expand into occupational space and shared internal magnetic fields grounding currents. Cold internal magnetic fields grounding currents sharing internal magnetism grounding currents as oxygen and hydrogen as water. Temperature equalization of shared internal magnetic fields grounding currents through all masses in its path. Heat equalization to force of pressure known as weight within a greater internal magnetic field grounding currents through the nucleus or core. External magnetic fields surrounding the monopole of repulsion to heat propulsion from cold repulsion momentum. Normal space is filled with dark heat energy outside of entanglement of mass. Hydrogen under extreme pressure expands into helium. Heat expands as heat energy propulsion. Physics 101. Heat can't collapse in on itself. Physics works. Mass is heat energy throughout space as space and mass in equalization. Stars replenish heat energy throughout space as dark heat energy potentially renewable heat energy when entanglement with mass occurs. Heat currents grounding through mass as renewable dark heat energy as mass. Density can't exceed resistance within occupational space itself. Cold repulsion is neutralized by heat energy cycling circulation patterns of internal magnetic fields within mass and without mass equalization. Hurricanes in space are external magnetic fields disolving proximity internal magnetic fields grounding currents by disrupting normal space repulsion to heat propulsion from cold repulsion momentum. Mass has to be hit with cold repulsion to heat propulsion from cold repulsion momentum, or it becomes heat propulsion from cold repulsion momentum and disolves internal magnetic fields outwardly force of pressure from within mass. It decays as external heat energy waves outside of entanglement of mass. Normal space repulsion is necessary for internal magnetic fields to redirect trajectories of currents flowing back into itself as mass occupies space as neutralized repulsion within the weakest point of repulsion. External magnetic fields disrupt normal space repulsion by hurricanes of heat energy neutralizes repulsion of normal space by redirected trajectories of external heat energy towards the greater magnetic field flow as the weakest point of repulsion as neutralized repulsion within its circulation patterns. Theoretically factual probability that works with quantum physics without gravity. Mass is always outward force of pressure. Physics works.

For those want to understand the universe here it is. In black (Dark) and white (Light). And God said. Let there be light. What is light? Light is energy and energy is defined as E=mc or Energy equals Acceleration. So let there be light can be interpreted as Let the be acceleration with a speed limit. Energy can be neither created nor destroyed. Only transformed. The universe went from an unaccelerated state to an accelerated state. The laws of physics dealing with Acceleration. Newton's law of motion F=ma, motion in space. And E=mc, motion in time. When god said 'let there be light' he didn't create an event in space. He created an event in time. He started the perpetual motion machine that transforms energy into acceleration and acceleration into energy. F=ma? Dark Universe physics where acceleration is unlimited, unbounded, infinite, undescribed, not existant. Absolute Zero. There is nothing in the Dark Universe until you define it. Upon which it becomes bounded. E=mc. Light Universe physics. Acceleration is now limited to the speed of light. The Light Universe is a now finite universe bounded by the speed of light. What Becky is doing is using physics from the Dark Universe, where anything is possible because there is nothing really there. And applying them to the Light Universe where there are limits. F=ma? Mass can increase as Acceleration increases but you can have infinites. E=mc? You now have limits on how much acceleration you can have which limits how much mass you can have because mass comes from Acceleration. Or rather, mass is consumed/converted in the acceleration process. E=mc. Acceleration goes up, mass goes down and vice versa. And this fact is demonstrated in every observation within the Light universe. F=ma? An infinite unbounded, limitless universe. So no, neutron stars do not have high mass and high acceleration. And neither do black holes. They are the extreme opposites. Low mass/high acceleration. High mass/low acceleration. Sports cars accelerate faster than loaded semis. If mass was the acceleration factor, don't you think the opposite would be true. Hot water has less mass than cold water. If mass created acceleration, wouldn't it be reversed? Now you know the truth. These people are either woefully ignorant or outright scammers. Nicholas Tesla called them out for being frauds. He lacked the vision/experience to explain why Relativity is mathematical nonsense. Galileo proved that there is no mass attraction but was blown off and locked up in prison when he persisted. E=mc. You can't have high mass and high acceleration. You exist in a bounded universe limited by the speed of light.
